WE CARE FOR YOUR

Endoscopic

EGD:

Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) is a test to examine the lining of the esophagus, stomach, and first part of the small intestine. The procedure uses an endoscope, or a flexible tube with a light and camera at the end. Pictures and/or biopsies may be taken using the scope.

Colonoscopy:

Procedure in which a doctor uses a colonoscope to look inside your rectum and colon. A colonoscopy can show irritated and swollen tissue, ulcers, polyps, and cancer.

Capsule endoscopy:

Form of endoscopy (looking inside the body) in which the patient swallows a large vitamin-sized capsule (containing 1-2 small cameras, a light bulb, a battery, and a radio transmitter) that takes pictures all the way through the digestive (gastrointestinal) tract. The radio transmitter sends the photos to a recorder the person wears on their waist or shoulder, which are then downloaded to a computer by a technician.

Skin grafts

A patch of skin that is surgically removed from one area of the body and transplanted or attached to another.

Rotational flaps

A skin flap is healthy skin and tissue that is partly detached and moved to cover a nearby wound. A rotational flap is a semicircular skin flap that is rotated into the defect on a pivot point. Rotational flaps provide the ability to mobilize large areas of tissue with a wide base and blood vessel(s) for reconstruction.

Pilonidal cysts

A pocket that forms around a hair follicle. A pilonidal cyst can be drained by making a small incision in the cyst, draining the contents, and then packing the incision site. If the cyst continues to be problematic, the skin and underlying tissue with the hair follicles can be surgically removed.

Melanoma treatment

Melanoma is the most serious type of skin cancer. Often the first sign of melanoma is a change in the size, shape, color, or feel of a mole. Surgery is the first treatment of all stages of melanoma. Other treatments include chemotherapy and radiation, biologic, and targeted therapies. Biologic therapy boosts your body's own ability to fight cancer. Targeted therapy uses substances that attack cancer cells without harming normal cells.

Skin grafts

A patch of skin that is surgically removed from one area of the body and transplanted or attached to another.
